Cardiff

Graham and I went in the car at the weekend to visit Graham’s parents. It’s his Mums birthday soon so we thought it would be a nice to go give pressies in person. Weather was reasonably good most of the time (though it did rain quite a while on Sunday) and we went to a couple of beaches too (piccies to follow). Second one was a bit chilly - I really do have to get around to getting a new winter coat (I’d wear my old one except I’ve had to charity shop all my old coats cos they drown me seeing as I’ve lost so much weight now).

We also went to Ikea on Monday (so forgive me if I rave :D ). I love that store. We got our new dinner set while we were there. Our old one we were given by my mother as we didn’t have one and (I think??!?) it was second hand when she got it too - so it’s fair to say it’s had a good share of re-use - it was in excellent nick till I got my hands on it - now it’s got more chips in it than a fish shop has potatoes :) Anyway in a nutshell the only dinner sets Graham and I have EVER agreed on are the ones that you seem to need a bank loan for :o (John Lewis prices can give a person a heart attack) but now we’ve found one in Ikea - and it was a bargain price too so you can’t beat that. Incidentally, it’s almost the same colour (without us realising at the time) of our new towel set we got at a bargain price a few weeks back - weird bit of coincidence there - I only realised when we got home, so at least a little of our flat looks co-ordinated.

Titchfield Abbey

Since Graham got his new car (See here for more info) we’ve been checking out some of the local Hampshire attractions - which of course you can only really see a lot of them by car, which I think really sucks. Anyway, ‘nuf said about that for now. We went to Titchfield Abbey on saturday, one of the freebie English-Heritage sites. It’s very lovely and has over time had various renovations done to it - some including red bricks(!!!) and 2 very silly looking chimneys on the top, again in red brick. There were also some beautiful crosses in the stone walls and some latin tiles. We had a picnic while we were there too, it was very quiet - only 3 other cars were there while we were, and 2 left before we did.

I love places like this - it’s interesting to see and try to imagine what life was like for people hundreds of years ago - and really makes me appreciate my (too expensive in my opinion) electric heating, and the new car :D

We did end up almost missing the turn off for the Abbey though. They Abbey walls aren’t hard to miss, but the entrance looks like one those yellow/white gravel paths, not a road entrance, and if it wasn’t for the car we managed to get a glimpse of inside then Graham said he wouldn’t have gone in with the car!!
